Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL) is a valuable renewable and biodegradable raw material with countless applications:
- CNSL is excellent for application in the pharmaceutical industry since it possesses a variety of therapeutic qualities, including anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antibacterial effects. Drugs for the treatment of many illnesses, such as diabetes, cancer, and arthritis, among others, are made using CNSL as a basic ingredient.
It is also successfully used in other types of productions, such as the following:- for the production of marine paints, automotive paints and resins, foundry binders, epoxies, friction coatings, paints and varnishes, biofuels, resins rolling stock, resins for rubber compounds, polyurethane-based polymers, surfactants, foundry chemicals and intermediates for the chemical industry.
Cardanol contained in CNSL represents a raw material of great future also for the preparation of numerous soft nanomaterials including nanotubes, nanofibers, surfactants and gels which can therefore serve as templates for the preparation of additional nanomaterials.
